Unfortunately, we were misled by the advertising on the street before we checked the TripAdvisor This was our first trip to Turkey and we were encouraged by our friends who had visited the country to experience a proper Turkish bath. This place was literally just round the corner from our hotel and although it looked it rather worse for wear on the outside, what swayed us was the fact that it was years old and so we thought we would be experiencing the real Turkish bath deal in historic surroundings.
The photographs on the advertising boards outside showed happy couples lying on marble slabs receiving their respective treatments from equally smiley masseurs. The advertised price on the same advertising boards for a full set of treatments was 75 Turkish Lira. This is not what we experienced. My partner and I went in together and were soon separated.
I don't know how authentic it is Turkish bath-wise for the masseur to try to engage you in giving him oral sex, but this experience was definitely not for us.
It was intimidating, sleazy, unclean and underhand. If these things float your boat - GO!! If not, avoid at all costs. I went to this hamam in winter-time, looking forward to relax and warm up inside..
Unfortunately, it was a horrible experience. The place was cold, the service awful, the attendants were asking for extra money. I was told that the whole procedure will take cca minutes, but it was done in no more than half an hour, and then I was repeatedly asked whether I finished, so letting me know that I should already go.
