Once again we decided to skip the road from the Myanmar border avoiding the roadworks and endless trucks. We managed to hitch a ride with a bunch of teachers heading home for the summer holiday. A lovely lady befriended us, helped us order lunch from a local restaurant and then gave us a bag of delicious mulberries from her organic orchard.
In the afternoon we covered a relaxing 40 km before collapsing exhausted in our room after our uncomfortable overnight journey to the border. The next day the cycling was easy if hot and sweaty the terrain was flat as we wended our way through the fertile fields of central Thailand.
We avoided the busy Asian Highway by taking minor roads on the opposite bank of the river. On the second night we asked if we could camp at a couple of temples.
They turned us down but the second group of monks suggested we tried at the school across the road. They would lovely. Giving us a place to put our tent that was covered from the elements and showing us where the toilets were. They even provided a fan for us to keep cool. We spent a relaxing couple of days visiting my friend James seeing a few of the local sites, enjoying the swimming pool, eating great food and generally being treated like royalty.
It largely seems to consist of a huge network of wide roads overpasses, underpasses and intersections connecting a series of shopping malls.
