Ditto for ''meeting people'' which I gather you only mean to say white farang? Nice restaurant but mediocre rooms. The scenery gets nice from Tak onwards. In your spare time you can take the twisty but paved road to Umphang which is sort of the wild west of Thailand. In dry season Nov-May you can go from Umphang to the Thilawsu waterfall and sanctuary for treks, rafting and groovy scenery.
Beware that although Thailand is not a high-risk country for malaria that Tak province has some of the highest occurrence, plus there have been some outbreaks of dengue fever. Consider anti-malarial precautions, use repellent, etc. If you get really bored take a few days off and come to Chiang Mai 6hr bus ride. Youll meet lots of BKaren child rostitutes their drunken aid worker clients and pimps yabba dealers smugglers Mozzies big time and as Bob rightly says Dengue You are not allowed to volunteer on atourist visa and if you are identified as in touch with exile movement special branch will monitor you No 1 hotel fine No planes since crash the jet still on runway and the bus sta is miles out and touts try charge more for a tuktuk than aride to Tak 2 hours away Paradise if you like being infected in a sleazy brothel Chok Dee.
Hi Ben I have bben working in Mae Sot for 6 months and am staying on for another 6. I will soon start working, it seems, in the same place as you. When are you arriving? I can give u my email for more info if u want, will be happy to help Hmmm I read an article in some thai magazine. It was some professor saying that seeing the glass as half empty was positive thinking The glass half full being the negative POV because you did not think that therer could be anymore in it Im not sure I really get that I always thought of myself as a glass half full kind of person but now they say that thats the negative angle Those thai magazines confuse me This topic has been locked by a moderator.
