This was my first trip to this resort, but not to Cuba. From the moment I arrived I noticed many wrinkled up old farts with young cuban girls. The hotel actually has a system, I learned from a patron who uses it, that you can pay the hotel pesos to have your "companion" stay with you for the week. This is so they can eat there and sleep there, and anything "exrta" you want from them you pay for.
There were people there that have been coming back for years to get together with the hookers, and the hotel is not ashamed of the presence of them as they are making money too. I found it disgusting that the other tourists came second.
Resort is old and dated, decor sucks, food was crappy, repetative. Beach was littered with drink cups, cigarette butts, not groomed except for seaweed. Some staff very friendly, others not ven a smile. I found upon checkin no one even seemed happy to see you, or welcome you. I spoke to many other tourists who had all the same complaints. If Gran Club cleaned up their act, i may go back, but considering they are making money off the hookers, I doubt it will happen.
Families will not appreciate the atmosphere in this resort. A family of 8, grandparents, teenagers and two younger kids. Everyone had fun! The kids programs are wonderful and the staff was helpful and friendly, especially to the kids.. Froggy is great. We had no problems with the younger girls being on their own at the resort But they were not aggressive and there was security at the beach The nighly entertainment was good We were impressed.
Earlier reviews were concerned the humour was not family orientated Yes you will see the odd young cuban woman with an older man The food was fine. If you are looking for high end North American food But if you like fish, rise and beans, eggplant, fruit, then the food is great.
